what's what inside the chambergovernment review council (GRC) | The mission of the GRC is to monitor issues of public policy and legislation at the local, state, and federal level; provide membership with up-to-date information pertinent to helping them make informed legislative decisions; and to develop policy and position recommendations to the Board of Directors on key issues impacting the area.economic and community development | Assisting in the retention and expansion of existing businesses and the recruitment of new businesses to the service area, this committee concentrates its efforts in the retail segment. This committee is the marketing arm of the Chamber, promoting the benefits of doing business in the Pittsburg area, and is completing an Economic Development Marketing Plan. leadership development | As one of 17 communities participating in the Kansas Community Leadership Initiative, the Pittsburg Area Chamber Foundation is on the cutting edge of leadership training. Strong leadership is key to the success of any community. How capable citizens in this county are developed will determine our future. To truly become a performing community, we must broaden our view of leaders to include every sector of the community and help nurture individuals' strengths to build a collaborative structure. leadership crawford county | The purpose of Leadership Crawford County is to develop people who will share with others the leadership skills they have accquired and will assume an active role in making a difference in the community, workplace and family structure. It is a program where participants become facilitative, collaborative servant leaders who can make their community a better place for all people to live and grow. In six one-day sessions, class members will be introduced to 21st century leadership capacities with the philosophy of servant leadership at the core of all sessions. junior leadership crawford county | The mission of Junior Leadership Crawford County is to help high school sophomores build confidence and teach them capacities to lead and give back to their communities. The philosophy of the program is based upon the concept of servant leadership, teamwork and community. It seeks to involve others in the decision making process and enforces the need for both ethical and caring behavior. Junior Leadership continues to evolve, and encompasses all six high schools in Crawford County. youth leadership crawford county | The Youth Leadership Program is structured to sixth grade students and focuses on developing the next generation of leaders in our community through role model interaction and developmental activities, including: Working as a team, understanding diversity, communicating effectively, resolving conflict, and leading by example. diplomats | This committee is formulated from volunteers of different companies throughout the Pittsburg Area. They represent the Chamber by calling on other members and prospective new members throughout the year. The committee is required to attend a minimum of 50 percent of all Chamber functions. Current projects include surveying our membership to find out their needs and gather more information on their business. We use this information to help people who are seeking our members' services and also we can also develop programs to meet our members' needs. member benefits | A committee that exchanges ideas, experiences. and then expands on them. They research new and existing benefits and services provided by the Chamber to members. The group also is responsible for making recommendations to the Board of Directors on how to implement new benefits and services. Their goal is to try and meet the changing needs of the businesses throughout our region. The weekly Keeping PACE Newsletter, Business Card Drawing and the Chamber Minute on KKOW Radio are just a few benefits that have come from this committee. business education alliance | A collaborative effort formed by the City of Pittsburg, Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and USD #250. This group consists of business and educational professionals in the Pittsburg Area. They strive to provide a link between schools and businesses to identify career needs and develop strategies to offer students the knowledge and expectations of, insights into, and experience in various career opportunities. Events held in the past year included Mock Interviews to better equip students with interviewing skills to apply for jobs and a Job Fair to help them understand the job market and what education is required for specific career choices they may make. ambassadors | Comprised of volunteer personnel from various business in the community. Ambassadors represent the Chamber and their business by assisting members that host Coffees, Business-After Hours, Ribbon Cuttings, and Open Houses. Ambassadors are responsible for assisting in the planning and organizing the events, as well as facilitating the activities. |
